- Mud pools and solfataras

- The bridge between continents
We see volcanic craters and calderas
Small lava
craters and calderas are everywhere. We drive through large lava fields
which are now covered with moss and higher flora.
We drive by Lake Kleifarvatn
It is the largest
lake in the Geopark and has no rivers running into it or out of it.
Beautiful sandstone formation and hanging cliffs surround the lake.
We see unique moss and lichen
The moss in Iceland
is like the softest carpet you can imagine. The Geopark is a home to
more than 560 types of moss, lichen and liverworts.
We experience geothermal action
When
we drive through Krýsuvík, we will visit the solfataras and hot
springs. A small warning: There is a distinct Sulphur smell originating
from all the geothermal hot springs in the area.
Fascinating Geological formations
We
drive through fantastic lava formations on our way to Grindavík, a
small fishing village. We see where the lava has magically fallen down
steep cliffs on its way to the ocean.
This tour offers an extreme variety of landscapes: a beautiful lake (Kleifarvatn), fissures, lava fields and geothermal activity. You visit the geothermal area Krýsuvík, which offers unique colours and the fisherman village Grindavík.
